The narrative unfolds in an alternate version of Earth, where humans are a small minority, vastly outnumbered by other races. Humanity survives in scattered, isolated towns under the iron grip of the Syndicate, a powerful ruling force. Most people live in ignorance of the wider world, convinced they are under constant threat of attack. Meanwhile, information is tightly controlled, and any opposition is crushed with ruthless efficiency.
